In 2020, CR Coffee's Magazine Street flagship served as headquarters for the Preservation Resource Center's annual Shotgun House Tour. The PRC promotes the preservation of New Orleans' historic architecture, and the tour showcases restored shotgun houses across the city.
Kevin and Ashley Pedeaux are PRC preservationists themselves. They restored a shotgun house in the Holy Cross neighborhood through the PRC's Operation Comeback program — a commitment to honoring the city's architectural heritage that directly influenced how they approached the Magazine Street renovation.
Having CR Coffee as the tour headquarters was a natural fit. The flagship is itself a restored Victorian shotgun house, and the renovation preserved original details including the mantels and fireplace. Patricia David, who owns the fabric store across Magazine Street, created the custom Roman shades for the shop's windows — another example of the neighborhood connections that make the space what it is.
Preservation is not separate from how Kevin and Ashley run the coffee shops. The antique Royal No. 6 roasters at Coast Roast, the century-old buildings that house the shops, the relationships with neighbors like Patricia David — it is all part of the same philosophy: the old ways still have something to teach us.
